He enlisted in Hull. Served with the 9th West Yorkshire Regiment. Posted overseas, on 23trd Sept 1915. Killed in action, on 14/09/1916.
His army effects were divided between his many siblings. His war pension went to his younger sister, Catherine Leyden, at 20, Paris Street, Grangemouth, Scotland (War Pension Address)
