Addy, Thomas

Born Beverley, 1893. Son of Jack and Elizabeth Addy, of 27, Well Lane, Beverley. He had two brothers, William and John and a sister, Elizabeth.

A former Gardener and Horse breaker. Described as 5 foot, 7.5 inches tall, and 35-37 inch chest. He enlisted in the 1st/1st East Riding Yeomanry on 29/03/1911.

Enlisted at Beverley when war began, on 05/08/1914. Served with the East Riding Yeomanry. Posted to Egypt, on 27/10/1915. Returned home, on 12/07/1916. Awarded Good Conduct Badge, on 05/08/1916. Transferred to the Labour Corps, (14th Agricultural Company), on 11/03/1918.

Married Elizabeth Witty (1894-1949) at Howden, in September 1918. Died from Influenza, at York Military Hospital, just two months later, on 20/12/1918, aged 25. He had served in the army for 7 years and 237 days.

He is buried at Martins, Beverley. His widow, Elizabeth, moved to Well Cottage, Willitoft, Howden (War Pension address).
