BORN HULL 09/03/1896. SON OF GEORGE FREDERICK & MINNIE FLORENCE AINLEY. EDUCATED AT SOUTH MYTON SCHOOL, HULL. A FORMER APPRENTICE WITH MESSRS, KING & CO, HULL HE ENLISTEDIN THE ARMY, IN HULL ON 18/08/1912. SERVING AS A REGULAR SOLDIER AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. HE WAS SHOT IN THE HEAD AT HILL 60, BY A SNIPER, ON LEAVING HIS TRENCH. KILLED INSTANTLY ON 01/05/1915, AGED 18. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, MINNIE.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE MENIN GATE MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING AT YPRES. HE IS ALSO LISTED ON THE WALKER STREET MEMORIAL, HULL.
HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE PRINTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 14TH MAY 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES ON THE 15TH MAY 1915. * HE IS RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 1, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
