BORN HULL 1868. PARENTS LIVED ABOVE. WIFE AMY AIREY LIVED 36 DERBY STREET. HDM 14/10/15 & 127 CLUMBER STREET- 1911 CENSUS. HE WAS A HULL CORPORATION STOREKEEPER AND YARD FOREMAN AND HAD BEEN EMPLOYED BY THEM FOR 19 YEARS.

HE SERVED AS A SERGEANT WITH THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED AT GALLIPOLI, ON 22/08/1915, AGED 47. HE LEFT A WIFE AND THREE CHILDREN. HE BELONGED TO A LARGE PATRIOTIC FAMILY, WITH 28 RELATIVES SERVING DURING THE WAR. HE IIS PICTURED WITH SOME OF THEM IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 22/09/1915. *

HIS ELDEST SON HAD SERVED IN EGYPT, SALONIKA AND FRANCE, BUT HAD BEEN DISABLED AND RECEIVED A DISCHARGE.

SGT. AIREY’S DEATH AND ADDRESS WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 1ST AUGUST 1916.
