Anderson, Andrew

Born County Durham (South Shields according to Attestation Papers) around 1883, the son of Andrew and Bella, but was living in Hull by 1891.

He enlisted in the East Yorkshire Regiment and joined the Coldstream Guards in 1901, serving in India. He married Alice Ann Barlow at St Charles on 12 Oct 1903 and they had children Robert Henry, Catherine and Margaret. In the 1911 Census, his occupation was a Grocer. They lived at 52, West Street, Hull and 5, Cross Street, Brook Street, Hull and 38, Dock Street, Hull (war pension addresses)
He was wounded at Ypres 22/10/1914 and discharged 04/03/1915, following amputation of right leg (or foot – conflicting info). He died in Hull on 16/02/1916, aged 33, of Tuberculosis.
A Anderson is recorded on the St Charles Borromeo Memorial, Jarratt Street, Hull

His photograph was printed in the Hull Daily Mail, on 26/10/1914. *
