BORN HULL 1898. SON OF JACOB & MARY ANNOWITCH. THIS WAS HIS ARMY PENSION AND CWGC ADDRESS. HIS GRANDPARENTS ISSAC & JANE LIVED AT 49 AND 51 COURTNEY STREET. ENLISTED HULL. TRANSFERRED FROM THE DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY TO THE LABOUR CORPS. DIED AT HOME AGED 21. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, MARY. HE IS BURIED AT THE HULL OLD HEBREW CONGREGATION CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “IN MEMORY OF OUR DEAR SON MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE”
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE HULL JEWISH COMMUNITY ROLL OF HONOUR, WITH HIS COUSIN, PRIVATE, ERNEST HOFFMAN, 242789, WEST RIDING REGIMENT, KILLED ON 20/07/1918, AGED 27, FROM 49 COURTNEY STREET, EAST HULL..
