BORN EAST MERSEA, ESSEX 1897. ONLY SON OF CHARLES HENRY & LUCY ANN APPLEBY, OF SOUTH PARADE, LEVEN, (1911 CENSUS ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED AT DRIFFIELD. FORMERLY, 3213 YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION 16/09/1916, AGED 19. HIS BODY WAS NEVER FOUND. HE LEFT A FIANNCEE AND CHILD. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS FATHER. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING ON THE SOMME.

HIS WAR PENSION WAS PASSED TO ANNIE ADAMS, GUARDIAN OF HIS CHILD, AT 17 NOTTINGHAM PLACE, BRIDGE STREET, GAINSBOROUGH, LINCOLNSHIRE. SHE REMARRIED AND BECAME MRS ANNIE PURSGLOVE AND MOVED TO 22 SOUTHERN STREET, GARBROOK, SHEFFIELD.
