BORN BOLTON. LIVED IN HULL. ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE AND THEN CORPORAL 13/310, 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (HULL PALS). SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE KILLED IN ACTION AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916. HE WAS AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL ON 20/10/1916 FOR UNDERTAKING A TRENCH RAID WHILE WOUNDED. HE IS BURIED AT EUSTON ROAD CEMETERY, COLINCAMPS, FRANCE. THERE IS NO PENSION LEDGER ADDRESS.
DCM Citation London Gazette 20/10/16: “For conspicuous gallantry during a raid on the enemy’s trenches. Though wounded in two places the day before he insisted on taking part in the raid, and displayed great dash in the enemy’s trenches, inflicting loss on the occupants”
