BORN OTTRINGHAM, YORKSHIRE 1885. SON OF GEORGE ATKINSON (1864-1898) AND ROSETTA HOWES. MARRIED AT ST SAVIOURS CHURCH, HULL, ON 11/06/1905. HIS WIFE MARY ELIZABETH IRWIN & 3 CHILDREN LIVED AT 5 ROCHFORD AVENUE, BEDFORD STREET, HULL, (1911 CENSUS) AND 5 COLENSO VILLAS, BARNSLEY STREET, HULL. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED FOR ROBSON’S CEMENT WORKS, HULL.

HE ENLISTED AT HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 50725, EAST RIDING YEOMANRY. TRANSFERRED TO THE LOCAL ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS. AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM) FOR BRAVERY. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 27/05/1918, AGED 32. THIS WAS THE OPENING DAY OF THE GERMAN ATTACK ON THE CHEMIN DES DAMES RIDGE (KNOWN AS THE THIRD BATTLE OF AISNE). HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 12/09/1919. *

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WENLOCK BARRACKS ROLL OF HONOUR, HULL. HE IS ALSO COMMEMORATED ON THE SOISSONS MEMORIAL, AISNE, FRANCE.
