Married  Ross, Herefordshire, on 27 July 1913. Husband of Mabel Gwendoline Hiam (1890-1923), at 11, Inglemire Lane, Newland, Hull (War Pension address). They had two daughters, Vera and Barbara Jane.

A groom. Described as 5 foot, 4.5 inches tall, 130 lbs weight, 37-39 inch chest, grey eyes, brown hair, Church of England religion, Tattoo marks, back of left hand. Character – “Very Good”.

He enlisted in the army, on 13 Aug 1908. Served in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Mobilized on outbreak of war. Posted to France on 13 Aug 1914. Invalided home, on 29 Dec 1914. Discharged on 24 Dec 1915, after 7 years and 256 days service. Awarded Silver War Badge (no: 68376),
