BORN HULL 1887. ENLISTED HULL. SON OF THE LATE JOHN BALL AND MRS CLARA BALL. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN LIVING AT THIS ADDRESS.HE WAS AN OIL MILLER AND GAS WORKER. HIS BROTHERS CHARLES, GEORGE & FRANK BALL ALSO SERVED. HE ENLISTED IN BEVERLEY 7/12/1915. MOBILISED ON 1/3/1916. SENT TO FRANCE ON 23/6/1916. WAS KILLED IN ACTION THREE WEEKS LATER ON 14/07/1916, AGED 29. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HDM 14/7/16. HE WAS UNMARRIED AND LEFT HIS ARMY EFFECTS TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER. HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE SCULCOATES LANE ROLL OF HONOUR AND ON THE STONE PILLARS INSIDE ST MARY’S CHURCH, SCULCOATES LANE.
