BORN HULL 1887. SON OF THE LATE JOHN BALL AND MRS CLARA BALL, OF 4, WALTERS TERRACE, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. HE WAS AN OIL MILLER AND GAS WORKER FOR THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT & COKE COMPANY, HULL. HIS BROTHERS CHARLES, GEORGE & FRANK BALL ALSO SERVED IN THE WAR.

HE ENLISTED IN BEVERLEY 07/12/1915. MOBILISED ON 01/03/1916. SENT TO FRANCE ON 23/06/1916. KILLED IN ACTION THREE WEEKS LATER ON 14/07/1916, AGED 29. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 14/07/1916.

HE WAS UNMARRIED AND LEFT HIS ARMY EFFECTS TO HIS WIDOWED, MOTHER.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE SCULCOATES LANE ROLL OF HONOUR AND ON THE STONE PILLARS INSIDE ST MARY’S CHURCH, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL.

HE IS ALSO COMMEMORATED ON THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT AND COKE COMPANY WAR MEMORIAL, KEPT AT FAKENHAM GAS WORKS MUSEUM.
