Pte, Charles Edwin (Ted) Banks, 13th EYR

BORN HULL 1897. SON OF ZACHARIAH DAVISON BANKS (1860-1936) & ELEANOR RYDER (1868-1927), OF 1, FLORAL AVENUE, EDINBURGH STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER.

EMPLOYED AS AN APPRENTICE DENTIST, WITH MR OLIVER, OF HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. ON 28/11/1914. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (HULL PALS), IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. KILLED WHILE ON SENTRY DUTY, ON 06/08/1916, AGED 19. BURIED IN FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “EVER IN THOUGHT”

HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 253 DAYS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 25/08/1916. *
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, HAROLD BANKS, 1/4TH EYR WAS TAKEN PRISONER ON 27/05/1918 & DIED AS PRISONER OF WAR ON 18/11/1918, IN GERMANY. UNMARRIED. THEY LEFT BROTHERS, WALTER AND FRED AND SISTER BLANCHE BRANTON.
