EMPLOYED BY THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY AS A FOREMAN, FIREMAN AND LOCOMOTIVE ENGINE CLEANER.

HIS FIANCEE WAS ANNIE.

HE ENLISTED ON 08/05/1915, IN YORK. JOINED THE 17TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS (RAILWAY PALS) BATTALION. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 20/11/1915. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 05/07/1916, AGED 22. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, CHARLES WILLIAM BANNING.
