BORN KINGS LYNN, NORFOLK, 1890. SON OF ALFRED BARBER (1856-1953), OF LONDON, AND THE LATE LIZZIE (ANN MARIA ELIZABETH WHILEY) (1865-1906). HE HAD FIVE BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS, LIVING IN LONDON. HE WORKED AS A SAILOR AND LIVED IN HULL. HIS WIFE ADA MAY BARBER (NEE HOODLESS) (1892-1963), LIVED AT 50 CAROLINE PLACE, CHARLES STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 22/11/1915. EX 5070, 4TH EYR. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 05/07/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION, ON 08/09/1916. KILLED ON THE SOMME, ON 05/11/1916, AGED 25, COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. HE HAD SERVED FOR 350 DAYS. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ADA, AND TWO SONS, FRANK AND FRED.
