BORN HULL 1897. SON OF REUBEN AND; MARY JANE (VENEBLES), OF 16 GREGORY”S BUILDING, MOXON STREET, HULL;  9 WATSONS TERRACE, SPRING STREET, HULL AND 11, ST STEPHENS PLACE, ST STEPHENS SQUARE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). EMPLOYED AS A MILL HAND.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SEVED AS A LANCE SERGEANT, IN THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 15/05/1917, AGED 20. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON HULL BOYS CLUB ROLL OF HONOUR. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 01/06/1917 & 16/06/1917.
HIS BROTHER ARTHUR BATEMAN, ALSO SERVED IN THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT.
