BORN HULL 1892. SON OF HARRY PAUL BATEMAN (1863-1949) & MINNIE EDWARDS (1864-1940) AT THIS CWGC ADDRESS. EMPLOYED AS A WAREHOUSE MAN. HE ENLISTED AS A GUNNER IN THE EAST RIDING TERRITORIALS, RGA, ON 07/03/1910, AGED 18 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS. HE WAS CALLED UP ON 07/03/1916, AND ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 26/07/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT ON 04/09/1916. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT THE BATTLE OF SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 24. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER. HE WAS BROTHER, TO HARRY, DORIS, FRANK, FRED AND LAURA. HIS OTHER SISTER, EDITH BATEMAN, DIED 10/01/1917 AGED 14 YEARS. LOUIS BATEMAN IS BURIED AT THE A.I.F. BURIAL GROUND, FLERS. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “BEYOND THE STRIFE”
