BORN HULL 05/12/1892. SON OF DANIEL BATTY (1850-1925) & ELIZABETH ELLEN BATTY (1853-1901), OF 3, GRANGE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). ONE OF FIVE CHILDREN. SON OF A BOILERMAKER. WORKED AS A GENERAL LABOURER. THE FAMILY LIVED AT 17 LAUREL GROVE, PULMAN STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

HE ENLISTED AT HULL. EX 1367, 4TH EYR. TRANSFERRED AS SAPPER, ROYAL ENGINEERS. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 19/04/1915. DIED ACCIDENTALLY, ON 18/11/1917, AGED 26. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON THE 19/12/1917. HE IS BURIED AT SANGATTE, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “NOT FORGOTTEN”
