BORN HULL 1896. SON OF FREDERICK BELL AT 61, HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). A FORMER NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY WORKER. HE WAS WELL KNOWN IN BROUGH, WHERE HE WORKED ON HIS FATHER’S FARM AND TOOK AN INTEREST IN FOOTBALL AND CRICKET. HE THEN ASSISTED HIS FATHER, WHO WAS A BAKER IN HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN THE 10TH EYR, “HULL COMMERCIALS”, ON 06/10/1914. TRAINED AT BEDLINGTON. ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 11/10/1916. AWARDED GOOD CONDUCT BADGE IN THE FIELD ON 28/12/1916. BADLY WOUNDED IN ACTION, ON 27/02/1917. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, TO HIS LEFT ARM AND BACK, ON 04/03/1917, AGED 21. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/03/1917. *

HE IS BURIED AT COUIN NEW BRITISH CEMETERY. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WENT TO HIS FATHER, FREDERICK.

HIS BROTHER, LANCE CORPORAL, FRED W. BELL, 203465, 6TH EYR, OF 12 ELIZAS TERRACE, CAMPBELL STREET, HULL, WAS A HULL CORPORATION TRAM CONDUCTOR . ALSO REGARDED AS A  CUNNING LEFT ARM BOWLER, HE HAD PRACTICED WITH THE HULL AND YORKSHIRE CRICKET TEAMS.
