A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER, WHO HAD SERVED IN THE BOER WAR, WITH THE 1ST RIFLE BRIGADE.

HE ENLISTED AT HULL. POSTED TO FRANCE WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE, ON 23/08/1914. SERVED AS A SERGEANT WITH THE 1ST RIFLE BRIGADE, 11TH BRIGADE, 4TH DIVISION. WOUNDED BY SHRAPNEL IN THE HEAD, IN 13/09/1914. (HULL DAILY MAIL 26/09/1914).

KILLED AT PASSCHENDAELE, ON 13/10/1917, AGED 35. HE HAD 17 YEARS OF ARMY SERVICE.

COMMEMORARTED AT THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW ELIZABETH AT 14 ROSAMOND STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL.

HE LEFT A WIDOW, ELIZABETH FOOT AND DAUGHTER, FLORRIE GILLARD, BORN 17/11/1908. AT 14 ROSAMOND STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS)
