BORN HULL 1883. SON OF THOMPSON BELL (1846-1919) AND ELIZABETH HILL ( (1846-1935), OF 47, CECIL STREET, HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL. HE HAD ONE BROTHER, GEORGE, AT 8 WILLIAMS TERRACE, WEST PARADE HULL AND ONE SISTER, SARAH ELLEN BEAL.

HE MARRIED ON 06/10/1905. HUSBAND OF CHARLOTTE HILDYARD WELBURN, OF 20 ASH GROVE, DIVISION ROAD, HULL AND 3, ST GEORGES AVENUE, BOULEVARD, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS). THEY HAD ONE DAUGHTER, MURIEL.

WORKED AS A FRENCH POLISHER, FOR MESSRS, HOLMES & MOORE’S, TERRY STREET, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 15/12/1915. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6.5 INCHES TALL, 119 LBS WEIGHT, 34-36 INCH CHEST.

CALLED UP FOR SERVICE, ON 16/06/1916. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 19/12/1916. SERVED WITH THE 14TH & 15TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 05/10/1917, AGED 34. HE WAS HIT BY A SHELL WHILE DOING GOOD WORK AS A STRETCHER BEARER.

LEFT A WIDOW AND DAUGHTER. HIS DEATH AND PHOTO WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 08/11/1917.
