BORN LEICESTER, 1892. SON OF ALBERT ERNEST BETHWAY (1865-1940) & MARY ANN BENTLEY (1865-1954), OF, 55 ASHBOURNE STREET, LEICESTER (CWGC ADDRESS). HIS FATHER WAS A TIMBER SAW MILL FOREMAN. HE HAD ONE BROTHER, WALTER SIDNEY NETHWAY AND ONE SISTER, ANNIE ELIZABETH BETHWAY. HIS FAMILY WERE ALL BORN AND LIVED IN LEICESTER.

HE WAS A TIMBER MERCHANT’S CLERK, LIVING AT 64, ASHBOURNE STREET, LEICESTER, (1911 CENSUS)

HE ENLISTED AT LEICESTER, ON 16TH NOVEMBER 1914. SERVED IN THE 7TH LEICESTER REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 14/07/1916, AGED 24. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, SOMME, FRANCE.

HIS NAME CLEARLY APPEARS ON ‘ST JOHN THE BAPTIST’ WW1 CHURCH MEMORIAL, NEWINGTON, HULL. HIS CONNECTION WITH THE HULL AREA IS UNKNOWN, BUT POSSIBLY A RELATIVE LIVED IN THIS AREA?
