Bettinson, William

BORN HULL 1895. SON OF WILLIAM BETTINSON (1855-1912) AND ALICE BELL (1862-1943), OF  1 GOODWIN TERRACE, GOODWIN STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS) AND 6, WESTBOURNE TERRACE, GOODWIN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND THREE SISTERS. HE WORKED AS A FITTERS ASSISTANT (1911 CENSUS) AND AS AN OIL MILL LABOURER, WITH HIS BROTHER, JOHN.

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, WITH HIS BROTHER, JOHN. SERVED WITH THE 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. TRANSFERRED TO THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 12/05/1917, AGED 22. HE IS BURIED AT ST. NICOLAS BRITISH CEMETERY, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, JOHN HENRY BETTINSON, 13/19, 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 23. THEIR ARMY EFFECTS WENT TO THEIR MOTHER, ALICE.
