BORN EAST DEREHAM, NORFOLK 1889. SON OF JAMES BETTS (1846-1913) AND ELIZABETH STEVENSON (1850-1895), OF 8, BENJAMIN TERRACE, DALTON STREET, HULL.

A BOILER MAKER. HE MARRIED MAUD DAWSON AT SCULCOATES, HULL IN JANUARY 1914. THEY LIVED AT 33, CECIL STREET, HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THEY HAD TWO CHILDREN, CLARA ELIZABETH AND FREDERICK JOHN.

HE ENLISTED HULL. SERVED WITH THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 24/09/1918, AGED 29. BURIED AT THE SOMME.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, MAUD.
