Bibby, Harry John

Born Hull, 24 May 1895. Son of William Bibby (1859-1926) and Lucy Maria Hammond (1866-1950), of 23, Seaton Street, Fountain Road, Hull. He had three brothers, and seven sisters.

He was a Saw Backer and Railway Wagon repairer before WW1.

Enlsited in the Hull Pals., on 12 Dec 1914. Served with the 11th East Yorkshire Regiment, in Egypt and France. Discharged with Shell Shock on 3 Jan 1918. Awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. Also the Silver War Badge (No: 299024).

He was committed to the Hull City Asylum, Willerby, Hull and died in March 1949, aged 52.

His elder brother, Joseph William Bibby, 12/90, 11th EYR, was awarded the Croix De Guerre (CDG) for bravery and was killed in action, 28 Jun 1918, aged 30.

His elder brother, BQMS, Andrew Bibby, 382027, served with the East Riding RGA, in Italy and Egypt. In a letter to the Authorities after the war  Andrew reports that his brother Harry “deranged through war service” destroyed all his army papers in a “Brain Storm”.
