BORN HOLLYM, YORKSHIRE, 1897. YOUNGEST SON OF JANE ELIZABETH & THE LATE WILLIAM RICHARD BILTON, OF 138 MERSEY STREET, HULL. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN.HE WAS EMPLOYED BY THE LONDON JOINT STOCK BANK, OLD TOWN GRIMSBY.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A BOMBARDIER, IN THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. HE HAD BEEN IN FRANCE FOR SIXTEEN MONTHS AND ON HOME LEAVE FOUR MONTHS AGO. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 25/09/1917, AGED 20.

HIS ELDER BROTHER, EDGAR BILTON WAS KILLED ON THE SOMME, ON 07/10/1916. BOTH WERE SINGLE MEN AND THEIR ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO THEIR WIDOWED MOTHER. THEIR DEATHS WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 08/10/1917. *

BOTH BROTHERS ARE COMMEMORATED ON THE HOLLYM WW1 MEMORIAL.
