BORN HULL 1889. ENLISTED SEPTEMBER 1914. HE WENT TO FRONT AT THE END OF FEBRUARY 1915 AND WAS KILLED ON 12TH MARCH 1915, AGED 26. SHOT THROUGH THE HEAD. HE HAD BEEN MARRIED THREE YEARS AND LEFT A WIDOW, CATHERINE & 3 CHILDREN (CATHERINE, GERTRUDE AND JOHN) AT 5, POPLAR PARADE, CHAPMAN STREET, HULL, AND 98, BRIGHT STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE WAS THE SON OF SARAH & JOHN EDWARD BLACKBURN, OF ALEXANDRA AVENUE, GRANGE STREET, HULL. HE LEFT SISTERS GERTIE, DORIS & ETHEL, AT 33, RICHMOND TERRACE AND WATERLOO STREET, HULL

BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AT MESSRS WALKER’S OIL REFINERY, IN OXFORD STREET, HULL

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 30TH MARCH 1915. HE IS PHOTOGRAPHED WITH HIS BROTHER PTE, WILLIAM BLACKBURN, EYR, AND BROTHER IN LAW, PTE, W. HOOLEY, EYR, IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 1ST APRIL 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES ON 27TH MARCH 1915. *

HIS OTHER BROTHER, SECOND LIEUTENANT, CHARLES H. BLACKBURN, ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS AND IS PICTURED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 06/09/1917.

HIS WIDOW, CATHERINE MARRIED ANOTHER SOLDIER, ON 08/03/1916.
