Blackmore, John

Born Hull, 1895. Son of John and Ada Blackmore, of 28, Naburn Street, Woodcock Street, Hull (CWGC & War Pension address). He had one brother, Arthur Bilton Blackmore.

Employed as a Crane Boy (191 Census). His army records, describe him as unmarried, 5 foot, 1 inch tall, 34-36 inch chest, 117 lbs weight, Good Physical Development, Church of England religion. His occupation was “Improver”.

Enlisted in the Hull Pals, on 12/04/1915. Served in Egypt and France, with the 11th East Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred to the 13th East Yorkshire Battalion. Arrived in France, on 08/03/1916. Appointed Lance Corporal, on 14/11/1916 after the Battle, at Serre. Killed in action, on 25/03/1918, aged 25. His army effects were left to his mother. They included, a letter, photos, religious cards, pocket book, purse and a lock of hair. He had served in the army for 2 years and 353 days.

Commemorated on the Arras Memorial. He is remembered on St John The Baptist, WW1 Memorial, Newington, Hull.
