BORN HESSLE 1898. SON OF WILLIAM BLAKESTONE & MARY JANE JEWITT, OF 16 VICTORIA STREET. SPRINGVILLE, HESSLE. A BLACKSMITH. UNMARRIED. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 35-37 INCH CHEST SIZE, 148 LBS WEIGHT, “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. HE HAD ONE BROTHER, ERNEST AND ONE SISTER, RACHEL WHO BOTH LIVED ON HULL ROAD. HIS FATHER WAS A RETIRED SOLDIER AND FOREMAN OF THE LOCAL WHITING WORKS IN HESSLE.

HE ENLISTED AT BEVERLEY, ON 28/03/1917. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 51542, 2nd/1st EAST RIDING YEOMANRY. TRANSFERRED TO THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, ON 23/10/1917. KILLED ON 14/11/1917, AGED 18. HE IS BURIED AT WELSH CEMETERY (CAESAR’S NOSE), WEST-VLAANDEREN, BELGIUM.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HESSLE ROLL OF HONOUR, ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH.

HIS BROTHER, ERNEST WILLIAM BLAKSTONE, SERVED IN THE MACHINE GUN CORPS, AND SURVIVED THE WAR.
