BORN SWINE 1883. SON OF JOSEPH BLENKINSOP (1853-1931) & MARY ANN KIRBY (1858-1932), OF SWINE. SON OF A FARM LABOURER. HE WORKED AS A BRICKLAYER. ENLISTED HULL. HE MARRIED LAURA MARY GRAHAM, AT HULL, IN 1915. THEY LIVED AT THE SCHOOL HOUSE, SWINE, HULL. SERVED AS A CORPORAL IN THE ROYAL ENGINEERS. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 22/09/1915. TRANSFERRED TO THE BALKANS. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, IN SALONIKA, ON 13/01/1917, AGED 33. BURIED IN GREECE. HIS GRAVE, INSCRIPTION, READS, “GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS”
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, MATTHEW KIRBY BLENKINSOP, 12215, COLDSTREAM GUARDS, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 31/03/1915, AGED 19. THEY LEFT BROTHERS, JAMES AND LEWIS NORMAN BLENKINSOP, AND SISTERS, VICTORIA, KATE, ETHEL, NORA AND VERONICA
