HE ENLISTED AT RETFORD. NOTTINGHAM. JOINED THE 1ST NOTTINGHAMSHIRE YEOMANRY (SHERWOOD RANGERS). DIED OF WOUNDS, IN EGYPT, ON 08/11/1917, AGED 21. UNMARRIED. HE LEFT BROTHERS, BILLIE, AND ARTHUR, & SISTERS, ADA AND LIZZIE.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE HEDON WW1 MEMORIAL, IVY STREET, HEDON AND THE BILTON WW1 MEMORIAL, AT ST PETERS CHURCH, BILTON (57 SERVED , 6 DIED).

HE IS BURIED IN GAZA HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “IF GOD BE FOR US WHO CAN BE AGAINST US. GOD REWARDEST EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS WORK”
