Boothby, William Lawson

BORN HULL 1895. SON OF JOHN WILLIAM AND EMMA ELIZA BOOTHBY, OF 125,  HARDY STREET, HULL. ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. BEFORE THE WAR HE WAS A TELEGRAPH MESSENGER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, AS PRIVATE, 1474, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION ON 31/08/1918. BURIED IN FRANCE. HE WAS UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER EMMA. HIS SISTER MABEL LIVED AT 74 ADELAIDE STREET, HULL.
HIS BROTHER, WALTER BOOTHBY, A POSTMAN, WHO LIVED AT WEST PARADE, HULL, SERVED AS A PRIVATE, IN THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND WAS KILLED ON THE SOMME, ON 23/03/1918.

BOTH BROTHERS ARE RECORDED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHN, NEWLAND, CLOUGH ROAD, HULL.
