SERVED AS CHIEF ENGINEERS ON THE DRIFTER “PELAGIA”, LOST AT SEA, ON 28/11/1916. COMMEMORATED ON CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL, KENT.

HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS UNMARRIED WIFE, ALICE DUNLIN & THEN TO THE GUARDIAN OF HIS CHILDREN, FRANCIS CLARK, AT 29 COLTMAN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION RECORDS)

HMD Pelagia, built by Smith’s Dock Co. Ltd., North Shields in 1900 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy drifter of 84 tons. On November 28th, 1916, HMD Pelagia was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-21 (Reinhold Saltzwedel), near the Nab lightvessel. 12 persons were lost.
