Bows, George William

BORN HULL 1880. A FORMER SOLDIER WITH THE  1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT FOR 7 YEARS. HE SERVED IN INDIA. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 42 INCH CHEST, “VERY GOOD” CHARACTER.

MARRIED AT SCULCOATES, HULL, IN 1908. HIS WIFE EMMA WHITBY (1889-1884). LIVED AT 44 EDGECUMBE STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 62 SHARP STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). THEY HAD FIVE CHILDREN, FOUR OF WHICH DIED IN INFANCY DURING THE WAR. THREE OF INFLUENZA. WORKED AS A POSTMAN.

RE-ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 02/09/1915. POSTED TO THE EAST RIDING GARRISON ARTILLERY. DISCHARGED AS PERMAMENTLY UNFIT, WITH MALARIA, CHRONIC BRONCHITIS & TUBERCULOSIS, ON 15/04/1916. HE DIED AT RECKITTS HOSPITAL.
BURIED HULL NORTHERN CEMETERY 100 PLOT 37.37;CAUSE OF DEATH: CHRONIC BRONCHITIS.
