SERVED AS A ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE, TRIMMER, ON THE TRAWLER, “THOMAS STRATTEN”. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 20/10/1917, AGED 18. COMMEMORATED ON THE CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL, KENT.

Thomas Stratten, built by Cochrane & Sons, Ltd., Selby in 1914 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy trawler of 309 tons. On October 20th, 1917, Thomas Stratten was sunk by a mine from the German submarine U-71 (Walter Gude), off Butt of Lewis (Barrage 136). 8 persons were lost.
