BORN HULL 1875. HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN LIVED AT THIS ADDRESS. HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 26/05/1916, AGED 39. BURIED ON THE SOMME. HIS NAME WAS RECORDED IN THE ST BARNABAS BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH ON 9TH JUNE 1916. *
Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE HENRY CHARLES BOXHALL 12/1331. Born in Hull 1875, the only son of Henry Charles Boxhall Snr, our man served his country as a Signalman prior to the war, but had spent most of his working life at sea. He married Florence Peake on 4th July 1903 and the couple lived at 10 Granville Terrace, Strickland Street, Hull with their five children. He enlisted at City Hall on New Year’s Eve 1914 joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, ‘The Sportsmen’, 3rd Hull Pals. Henry was killed in action on 26th May 1916 and buried in Sucrerie Military Cemetery; he was 39 years old.
