BORN HULL 06/04/1897. SON OF WILLIAM & ELIZA ANN BRAITHWAITE, 10, DOROTHY AVENUE, CORNWALL STREET, HULL AND 9, PRINCESS MARY AVENUE, CLEVELAND STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). CLARENCE SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVY AND WAS KILLED ON 26/11/ 1914, WHEN HMS “BULWARK” EXPLODED IN THE RIVER MEDWAY, KENT.

HIS PATRIOTIC FAMILY OF SEVEN BROTHERS ALL SERVED IN THE WAR. SIX OF THEM SAW ACTION. ONE WAS A CORPORAL, THREE WERE PRIVATES, TWO WERE NAVAL SIGNALMEN AND THE OTHER A CADET. HIS BROTHER ERNEST BRAITHWAITE, COLDSTREAM GUARDS, WAS KILLED 27/11/1917, AGED 22. HULL DAILY MAIL, 07/05/1919.
