Born Hull 1889. Adopted Son of Harriet Ward Hill , of 6 Spring Terrace, Seward Street, Hedon Road, Hull (1911 census) and 16, Seward Street, Hull (war pension address). A Fire wood chopper and Warehouseman. he was Unmarried.

He enlisted in Hull on 07/12/1915. Called up for service, on 09/02/1916. Posted to France, on 03/06/1916. Served as Private, 21792, 10th East Yorkshire Regiment.

Returned to Edmonton Military Hospital, England on 12/10/1916. Posted again to France, on 19/05/1917. Returned to England on 08/11/1917. Discharged from army, with war aggravated epilepsy, on 17/06/1918. He had served for 2 years and 130 days. Awarded the Silver War Badge. for his services. He married Alice Jackson, at Hull, in 1918.
