Branton, Ernest

BORN SPROATLEY, YORKS 1898. SON OF JOHN & MARY ANNE BRANTON, SWINE & 48 VICTOR STREET, HULL. ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. A FARM HORSEMAN.

HE HAD ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 14/10/1916, BUT WAS NOT MOBILISED UNTIL 07/03/1917, AGED 17 YEARS AND 11 MONTHS. HIS ARMY MEDICAL RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM AS 5 FOOT 7.5 INCHES TALL, 138 LBS WEIGHT, 37 INCH CHEST, AND OF ‘GOOD’ PHYSIICAL DEVELOPMENT. POSTED TO THE DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY ON 13/01/1918. TRANSFERRED TO FRANCE ON 13/12/1918. KILLED IN ACTION ON 30/08/1918, AGED 19. HIS PERSONAL EFFECTS WHICH INCLUDED A BROKEN FOUNTAIN PEN AND WALLET WERE RETURNED TO HIS MOTHER.
This is a message sent by Norma Branton sent 10/05/2017 – Ernest Branton is my uncle. He was the first born child of John and Mary Anne Branton who were married in 1897. Ernest was born is Sroatley. The family moved to Swine the following year and then to 48 Victor street in 1916. Ernest was a horseman working on farms in Holderness.
