BORN HULL 1882. SON OF JOHN WILLIAM BRAY (1845-1903) AND JANE LAVERACK (1852-1896). BOTH PARENTS DECEASED. HE HAD NO BROTHERS OR SISTERS. WORKED AS A TIMBER CHECKER. LIVED WITH HIS UNMARRIED WIFE ANN MARIE SPPOSE FOR 15 YEARS, AT THIS ARMY  ADDRESS. HE HAD TWO CHILDREN – WILLIAM SPOOSE AND PHYLLIS METCALFE (ADOPTED). ALBERT BRAY WAS DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4 INCHES TALL, 34-26.5 INCH CHEST, 130 LBS WEIGHT, ARROW & HEAD TATTOO ON LEFT ARM, GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.

HE ENLISTED HULL, ON 0812/1915, AGED 33 & 4 MONTHS. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 21/03/1916. PROMOTED TO LANCE CORPORAL, ON 10/06/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, ON 17/01/1917. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 13/04/1917, AGED 35. HIS ARMY PENSION WAS LEFT TO ANNIE MARIE SPOOSE, GUARDIAN OF HIS ADOPTED DAUGHTER, AT 21, RAIKES STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SHE MARRIED. BECAME MRS COBB AND MOVED TO THE HALF MOON YARD, GOOLE.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON  28/04/1917, *  & 09/04/1918.
