BORN NORTH KILNSEY, LINCOLNSHIRE, 1879.  SON OF ELIZA AND GEORGE BRETT, OF ROPERY STREET, HULL. SON OF A BARGE OWNER ON THE RIVER HULL. HE HAD A YOUNGER BROTHER CALLED LEE (1886-1954).

HUSBAND OF SARAH BRETT LIVED AT 95, BLYTH STREET, DENABY MAIN, ROTHERHAM (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE WORKED AS A COAL MINER. ENLISTED AT CONISBOROUGH. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 16525, YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 14/06/1917, AGED 39. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW SARAH. SHE WAS AWARDED A WEEKLY PENSION OF 28 SHILLINGS AND NINE PENCE FOR HERSELF, TWO SONS, THOMAS AND RONALD AND TWO DAUGHTERS, MADGE AND JOY
