Brewster, Edwin George

BORN BILBROUGH, YORK, OCT 1895. HE WAS CHRISTENED “EDWIN”, BUT HIS ARMY RECORDS SAY “EDWARD”AND IT SEEMS FROM CENSUS RECORDS THAT HIS FAMILY CALLED HIM GEORGE? HE WAS THE ELDEST SON OF ROSE AND JOHN THOMAS BREWSTER, A WOODMANS, ON HALL FARM, STRELLEY, NOTTS AND HIS MOTHER ROSETTA DAVEY. ONE OF FIVE CHILDREN. HE WAS UNMARRIED AND WORKED AS A DOMESTIC GARDENER BEFORE THE WAR.

HE ENLISTED HULL. TRANSFERRED TO THE 251ST RFA, WHEN THE UNIT WAS CREATED IN 1916. POSTED TO FRANCE. DIED OF WOUNDS ON 20/09/1918, AGED 23. HE IS BURIED AT CHAUNY COMMUNAL CEMETERY.

HE WAS SINGLE AND HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER, ROSE.

HIS BROTHER WILLIAM ALSO SERVED IN THE RFA.
