BORN HULL 16/07/1894. SON OF JAMES WILLIAM BRICKLEBANK, AT 48 ROPERY STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE WORKED AT HULL’S HERRING STAGE AND LIVED WITH HIS SISTER AT 6 JARRAH AVENUE, RUGBY STREET. HE ENLISTED AT LOWESTOFT, AND JOINED THE 8TH SUFFOLK REGIMENT. HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 25/07/1915. HE WAS KILLED AT THE SOMME, ON 26/09/1916, AGED 22. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, HENRY BRICKLEBANK, 9919, 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED AT MONS, ON 28/10/1914, AGED 19. HIS BROTHER IN LAW, WAS ALSO KILLED MINE SWEEPING. GEORGE’S DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 18TH OCTOBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.*
