BORN HULL 1895. SON OF JAMES WILLIAM BRICKLEBANK, OF 48 ROPERY STREET, HULL. HIS GRANDMOTHER, SARAH ANN WALKER, LIVED AT 46 EDGAR STREET, HULL. A FORMER BOILER SCALER. HE JOINED THE ARMY AT BEVERLEY, IN 1911. AS A SERVING SOLDIER AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR, HE LEFT FOR FRANCE, ON 08/09/1914, WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. SERVING AS PRIVATE, 9919, OF THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED IN THE BATTLE OF MONS, ON 28/10/1914, AGED 19. HE HAD SERVED WITH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT FOR NEARLY THREE YEARS. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL, HAINAUT, BELGIUM. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, JAMES WILLIAM BRICKLEBANK. HIS NAME WAS INSCRIBED ON THE WALKER STREET, WAR MEMORIAL, HULL.
HIS BROTHER, GEORGE BRICKLEBANK, DIED DURING THE WAR ON 26/09/1916 AGED 22. ANOTHER BROTHER, JAMES BRICKLEBANK, SERVED ON MINESWEEPERS AND MANY OTHER RELATIVES SERVED DURING THE WAR.
HIS ADDRESS IS FROM CWGC RECORDS. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH ARE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 20TH NOVEMBER 1914. *
