BORN NEWINGTON, HULL 1892. SON OF JOHN & MARIA BROOKE – 88 WEST DOCK AVENUE & 9 PROVIDENCE TERRACE, LIVERPOOL STREET, HULL. A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER WITH SIX AND HALF YEARS SERVICE. ENLISTED IN PONTEFRACT, ON 12/01/1909, AGED 17. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 7.5 INCHES TALL, 157 LBS WEIGHT, 39 INCH CHEST, BROWN EYES, LIGHT HAIR, WITH TATTOO ON LEFT FOREARM. JOINED THE QUEENS OWN YORKSHIRE DRAGOONS. TRANSFERRED TO THE MACHINE GUN SECTION, 6TH YORK AND LANCS REGIMENT. LEFT FOR FRANCE IN 1914. WOUNDED IN THE HEAD, ON 23/10/1914. BECAME AN INSTRUCTOR IN THE MACHINE GUN SECTION. HE MARRIED, ELIZABETH MILLAR TEW, IN 1915. THEN MOVED TO SNAITH, YORKS. (HDM 19/10/1915).
HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT GALLIPOLI, ON 26/09/1915, AGED 23. HE HAD ONLY BEEN MARRIED FOR NINE MONTHS.
HIS PHOTOGRAPH APPEARED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 7TH DECEMBER 1915. * HIS DEATH WAS ALSO REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 11TH DECEMBER 1915.
