Brown, Charles.

Kim Semmence [mailto:semmence@semmence.karoo.co.uk] writes on the 15/04/2016: The Charles Brown who was killed on 27/06/1917 left his effects to his sister, Winifred Dearness. I traced her in the 1939 register and found a DOB consistent with a Winifred Brown born 13/02/1887 and baptised in St Charles on 06/05/1892…she did not have a brother named Charles, but she did have one named Clarence Reginald born 19/05/1884 and baptised at St Charles on 22/05/1884. Clarence disappeared from official records after the 1911 census and I have accounted for the other Clarence Brown born in Hull and of the right age to serve, so I believe Clarence Reginald and 201473 Charles Brown are one and the same.
He was a lighterman, son of William Brown, a lighterman and Norwegian by birth and Sarah (nee Greatorex), who lived at 1, Goshen Place, James Street (1911 Census) and 10, Queens Place, William Street, Hull (war pension address)
