BORN 1891. SON OF CHARLES & ELIZABETH BROWN – 7 BEVERLEY MANSIONS, CHURCH STREET, GREENWICH, LONDON. HUSBAND OF THE LATE ELIZABETH WHITE. LOST BY ENEMY ACTION. HULL MERCHANT NAVY RECORDS. COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL NAVAL MEMORIAL, LONDON.
SS Montebello, built by Earle’s Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd., Hull in 1911 and owned at the time of her loss by Ellerman’s Wilson Line, Ltd., Hull, was a British steamer of 4324 tons.
On June 21st, 1918, Montebello, on a voyage from London to Hampton Roads, was sunk by the German submarine U-100 (Degenhart von Loë), 320 miles W1/2N from Ushant (Ouessant). 41 persons were lost.
