Born Nuneaton, Warwickshire,1881. Son of Henry & Eliza Brown of Warwickshire, of 4 John’s Place Chapman Street, Hull (1911 Census). Son of a bricklayer. Resided at 10, John’s Place & 12, Howard’s Row, Chapman Street, Hull (1901)

Married at Hull 11/11/1905. Husband of Susannah Lockwood Hugh Brown, at 10, Plimsol Terrace, Chapman Street, Hull (Army address) and 3, Cavill Terrace, Bean Street, Hull (War Pension address).

Employed as a Hull Dock labourer. Described as 5 foot, 7 inches tall, 131 lbs weight, 35-37 inch chest, blue eyes, light brown hair, good physical development, scar on lower neck and 2 scars on his back, Church of England religion.

Enlisted in the 1st King’s Own Scottish Borderers, on 19/8/1901, aged 20. Left after 12 years service, on 18/8/1913. Mobilized on 5/8/1914, when war began, aged 34.5 years. Served as Private, 2028,  1/4th East Yorkshire Regiment. Posted to France, on 17/4/1915. Wounded in the left hand on 27/4/1915 (lost two fingers). Returned to France, on 9/10/1915. Blown up by a mine, which caused internal problems and returned to England again on 18/3/1916. Hospitalised at Dublin Castle, Ireland. Transferred to the 12th Bedfordshire Regiment, on 23/12/1916. Discharged with Tuberculosis of the lungs, on 5/4/1919.

Awarded the Silver War Badge (no: B264391). Died on 07/06/1920, aged 40.
