BORN HULL 1897. SON OF JOHN HORTON BROWN (1862-1944) & MARY ELLEN GILBERT (1868-1945), OF 31 BARNSLEY STREET, HULL. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND FIVE SISTERS. WORKED AT THE SKIN & HYDE MARKET, FINKLE STREET, HULL . DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4.5 INCHES TALL, 125 LBS WEIGHT, 35 INCH CHEST. ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, IN JANUARY 1915. SERVED WITH HIS BROTHER ADRIAN, IN THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. THEY SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. HE KILLED IN ACTION AT SERRE, 11/13/1916, AGED 19. HE HAD SERVED WITH THE REGIMENT FOR 1 YEAR AND 288 DAYS. HE IS COMMEMORATED AT THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, ADRIAN BROWN, 13/44, 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, SURVIVED THE WAR, ONLY TO DIE OF PNEUMONIA, IN 1919, AGED 30. ADRIAN BROWN IS BURIED AT HULL’S HEDON ROAD CEMETERY.
