SERVED AS GUNNER, 77909, IN THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY,(156TH HEAVY BATTERY). TRAINED AT ALDERSHOT, HAMPSHIRE. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 25/05/1917, AGED 36. HE DIED TEN DAYS LATER, ON 03/06/1917, AGED 36. HE DIED BRAVELY AND WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM). IN ALL HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 25 DAYS. HE IS BURIED IN STRAND MILITARY CEMETERY, HAINAUT, BELGIUM. A SINGLE MAN, HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ANNA. THEY INCLUDED, LETTERS, TWO DISCS, PAIR OF SISSIORS, AN AIR PILLOW, AND £4,15 IN COINS. HE LEFT TWO BROTHERS, JAMES HENRY AND ROBERT DAVID BRUCE, AND TWO SISTERS WHO BOTH LIVED AT 2 ST ANDREW’S STREET, BEVERLEY. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/06/1917.
