BORN LIVERPOOL, 30/04/1898. SON OF WALTER SCOTT BRUCE (1871-1932) & ELVINA ANNIE CAPLIN (1968-), AT 19 , GODDARD AVENUE, NEWLAND AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION & CWGC ADDRESS). A CHAIR MAKER. SON OF A LABOURER. HE  HAD TWO BROTHERS AND A SISTER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 02/02/1916, AGED 18. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 30/09/1916. JOINED THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, IN THE FIELD, ON 15/10/1916. REPORTED MISSING AT THE BATTLE OF SERRE, ON 13/11/1916. DIED A GERMAN PRISONER OF WAR, ON 12/02/1917, AGED 19. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ANNIE. HE LEFT A BROTHER, HAROLD, WHO SERVED IN FRANCE AND HIS SISTER, ELVINA.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 05/07/1917. HE IS BURIED AT NIEDERZWEHREN CEMETERY, GERMANY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “UNTIL THE DAY BREAKS”
